Every country in the world has witnessed the activities of human, civil or migrants’ rights groups’ activities. These organizations are established under the United Nation Charter.
They are supposed to check the government against excesses that may involve violation of human needs. These organizations also have a responsibility to check the government’s against legislating laws that are no in tandem with the international laws. Human rights are by extension part of the law in every member state of the United Nations. The fact that a country has not included human rights in their laws does not mean that the human rights do not apply. Even dictatorial governments are supposed to maintain respect to these rights.
The work of protecting human rights has never been easy. People risk their life by opposing in most cases dictatorial governments which are ready to crash anyone who dares to oppose them. It is an initiative driven by courage and commitment to standing with what is right. It is not an area you want to join to make money.
Many rights movements crash with the government putting the lives of those who associate with these organizations at risk. History has it of great men and women who lost their lives in the duty of fighting equality in the society. We all know of Martin Luther King Jnr, a great advocate of equality who lost his life in advocating for what is right.
The current rights movements extend their reach from the community level to the international levels. The community-based rights groups are supposed to monitor the situation at the local level and report to higher groups at national and international level.
Today, we know of international rights groups such as Amnesty International, human rights watch and UNHCR which have a global appeal. They address issues that happen in almost every country in the world. Another organization which has been vocal on the matter of human rights in the United States is Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund.
Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund
This organization is based in Arizona. As the name suggests, it is an organization that deals with financing.
Who do they finance? The group funds the operations of other organization who are in the struggle of protecting rights of immigrants in Arizona. Arizona is one of the states in the United States which have the highest number of racial discrimination cases.
Where does the money for financing come from? The organization uses the money that was awarded to its founders, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin in a court case where the state had imprisoned them unfairly. They were awarded $3.75 million by the courts of appeal.
Frontera Fund has helped many immigrants’ families today in cases of human rights violations. The two journalists hope to see a society that treats everyone with fairness that is stipulated under the human rights regulations.
As the activities of the group widen, it is growing its reach outside Arizona. Also, more and more people have joined to support the activities of the organizations.
